Frequently asked questions

What type of images does this tool extract?
It extracts rasterized images embedded as XObject resources in the PDF: JPEG photographs, PNG graphics, or RGBA color images. It does not extract vector elements or formatted text.
Why are no images showing up in my PDF?
Some PDFs contain only text and vectors without any embedded raster images. It is also possible that images are stored in a non-standard internal format that the extractor cannot recover as individual objects.
What format are the extracted images saved in?
Images are exported as PNG files at the original resolution of the embedded object. If more than one image is found, they are automatically packaged in a ZIP archive.
What is the difference between 'Extract images' and 'PDF to PNG'?
'PDF to PNG' converts each full PDF page into a screen image, including text and vectors. 'Extract images' recovers only the individual image objects embedded inside the PDF, which may be separate photographs distinct from the page layout.
Are my files uploaded to an external server?
No. The document analysis and image extraction run entirely in your browser memory using pdf.js. No data ever leaves your device.
